Did you know the humble waffle has been around since ancient times? The Greeks first started using two metal pans over an open flame to make flat cakes called “Obelios”.  In the 14^th century, waffles would be imprinted with coats of arms, religious symbols, and other images.  In 1869, the first waffle iron was patented in the US.
